AMAD JASSIM AL MULLAH - Iraqi

Ramadi Fighting

Finalist: The Rory Peck Award for Hard News

Anyone working in Iraq at the moment deserves huge respect. He is getting historically important shots that Western cameramen can no longer get themselves.”

Judge's Comment

This piece shows unusually close footage of clashes between insurgents and US troops on the streets of Ramadi. During some of the fiercest battles of the Iraqi insurgency, Amad was at constant risk of detention, harassment, or becoming caught in the crossfire. A judge commented: “This is an up-close and personal view of the situation in Ramadi – a terrifying view of street to street combat. It’s fascinating, valuable journalism.”

Cameraman's Comment

It was very difficult to film while the battles were going on but this didn’t prevent me from working. I feel I was doing my professional job as a cameraman. I meet so many difficulties when filming.”
