Farhad Kerimov
Chechnya

Farhad Kerimov (1948 – 1995) was a highly regarded Russian freelance cameraman. He graduated in science before switching to journalism in 1988, and forging a reputation for himself as an accomplished journalist with an intricate knowledge of the complicated Caucasian region. His outstanding and uncompromising coverage of the Chechnyan conflict resulted in him being posthumously awarded the first Rory Peck Award in 1995.

His footage, shot in Grozny for APTV during the all-out Russian artillery and ground assault in the winter of 1994/95, played a direct role in changing the way the world thought about the conflict in Chechenya.

On 22nd May 1995, Farhad was brutally murdered while working on the rebel side of Chechnya. No motive was ever established for his killing.
