adams.GIF (6836 bytes)Robert Adams has spent eight years as a freelance journalist filming, writing and producing reports from all over the globe. His entry for this yearıs award was the first time the Iranians had allowed a foreign television crew to film their military installations on the Eastern Khorrosan border. The border is the frontline in the Westıs war against Afghan heroin. It took him almost two years from first being told of Iranıs war against the traffickers to finally getting permission to film there.

For ten years Shlomi Afriat, from Northern Israel, has documented countless news events in Israel, the occupied territories and neighbouring Middle Eastern countries. Last January he and his crew had set out in convoy to document Israelıs humanitarian aid to the local Christian population in South Lebanon, when a roadside bomb exploded. At the moment of the explosion, despite a body shattered by the blast, Shlomi reached for his camera and pressed the record button.
