From the Chairman Bob Jobbins OBE
But we also depend on you, our supporters, who each year loyally buy tickets and thus enable us to provide practical support to the freelance community around the world. This year has brought two new sources of funding. One has been the generosity of the families of those freelances who have been killed in the past eighteen months. Their fundraising efforts mean that more help can be given in the year ahead. The other source is The Sigrid Rausing Trust, which has awarded the Rory Peck Trust a grant of £90,000 to explore ways of extending its activities around the world, and specifically to extend practical help to the families of freelances killed or injured in the course of their work. This grant also gives us the opportunity to develop the Rory Peck Trust and its work as the only charity dedicated to the welfare of the freelance community. This is an opportunity we are determined to seize to make the Trust more effective in fulfilling its charitable aims. We have appointed as project director Melanie Anstey, herself an experienced TV freelance producer. In thanking our friends, we should not forget our friends in the industry, who give training bursaries and considerable support in the production of the Awards ceremony. We could not do without the generous help from a number of broadcasters including the BBC, ITN, BSkyB, Channel 4 News and Reuters Television. This both provides considerable financial support for the Awards, and is also further evidence of the strength of their commitment to our work. Bob Jobbins OBE
