SEAN PAUL LANGAN

Mission Accomplished: Langan in Iraq

Finalist: The Rory Peck Award for Features

He did this totally on his own, it is in the Rory Peck Awards spirit, he had incredibly good access, he shot images we hadn’t seen before…and was doing the story before anyone else.”

Working alone for four months in the Sunni Triangle of Iraq, Sean Paul Langan spent time with US soldiers on patrol, filmed the first in-depth interviews both with Iraqi insurgents and outside Abu Ghraib prison detailing allegations of torture and abuse three months before they were revealed in the West.

Cameraman's Comment

Using a video-diary style and spending longer in the field, Sean Paul Langan says “I am able to get better access than if I was with a larger crew… people find a single camera-operator less threatening in my experience…as a single operator cameraman, I simply hold my camera at arms-length when I want to shoot myself talking rubbish.
