The Rory Peck Awards 2005

SUBMISSIONS

All entrants, or their representatives, must sign the acceptance and authorisation at the bottom of the entry form (pdf version). When completing the online form this will appear as a separate page after the form has been completed. Please print it off, enter your details, sign it and return to the Rory Peck Trust.

Entries will not be considered if this release is not signed.

1. All entries must:

  • be submitted on Beta SP (Pal) tape. Entries for the Rory Peck Award for Features and the Sony Impact Award must also be submitted on VHS (Pal)
  • be accompanied by a description of conditions while filming, details of transmission, a brief biography of the entrant (full CV's are not acceptable) and a photograph of the entrant
  • be in English or be accompanied by a detailed and accurate storyline or dopesheet in English

CRITERIA

THE SONY IMPACT AWARD
Freelance footage providing humanitarian imagery which has had an impact internationally and contributed to a change in perception or policy. Entries must be no longer than 1 hour in length.

THE RORY PECK AWARD FOR HARD NEWS
Freelance coverage of an event where the focus is on the immediacy of the action. Entries may be a single story or a portfolio of short items, in total no more than 10 minutes in length. Rushes / non-voiced pieces are encouraged.

THE RORY PECK AWARD FOR FEATURES
Freelance work demonstrating determination and stamina, together with versatility and originality in approach and storytelling. Entries must be between 10 minutes and 1 hour in length.

*The judges reserve the right to change the category of an entry where necessary

ELIGIBILITY

For the purposes of The Rory Peck Awards, the term "freelance" is defined as someone whose main profession is working as a self-employed cameraman / camerawoman. The freelancer should spend a substantial amount of time in newsgathering or related programme-making. This includes freelancers under retainer to an employer but not those in exclusive full-time employment.

  1. All entries must have been shot by a freelance cameraman / camerawoman.
  2. Entries must have been transmitted between 1st August 2004 and 31st July 2005.
  3. Agency feeds are considered broadcast if they have been fed within the qualifying dates.

CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

The Rory Peck Trust, along with Awards' sponsor, Sony, have the right to use entry material solely to promote the Rory Peck Awards 2005, The Rory Peck Trust and the Trust's association with Sony during the period of Sony's sponsorship. The Trust and Sony may include and authorise the use of entry materials in publicity associated with the Awards, or in programmes about the Awards and the Trust. For the avoidance of doubt, there is no payment made for this use. No commercial rights are granted to the Trust or Sony.
