From The Chairman After
a period of consolidation, the Trust is preparing for a busy year. We
have set ourselves three main tasks: to increase the number of grants
paid to beneficiaries, to provide support for more freelances to receive
specialist safety training, and to develop and support safety training
overseas to meet the needs of local-based freelances. At the same time
our Director, Tina Carr, is pushing ahead, gathering support internationally
from media organisations for a scheme to improve access to affordable
insurance for freelances whether working in conflict zones or not. The Trust has always been fortunate in its supporters. Committee members do a great deal to keep the work of the Trust alive, while the Trustees devote considerable time and effort to helping to manage the Trust's affairs. After many years, one of our founding members - and an energetic and generous Trustee - Pete Henderson, is moving abroad. Aware of the Trust's needs, he is stepping down as a Trustee. We are sad to lose him as a valued Trustee, but delighted that he wishes to remain involved as a member of the Committee. (see A Trust Tale) As a consequence of Pete's decision, but also to further strengthen the board, we are now looking for a number of new Trustees who can help us both in our fundraising and in the general management of the Trust. Our aim over the next few years is to harness the considerable skills and experience of our supporters to build on the success of the Trust, and to make it even more effective in helping the freelance community worldwide.
