War in Iraq

The sheer numbers of media professionals deployed in this war is unprecedented. This brings enormous benefits to the public in terms of flow of information but the tragedies of the last week illustrate that the dangers are also unprecedented. With every day that passes, our respect for those operating in these circumstances only increases.

We extend our sympathy to the families and colleagues of those who have lost their lives in a war which is still less than two weeks old.

The Rory Peck Trust is convinced that the major media organisations have put considerable effort into the safety issue. Already there are a number of journalists missing and we urge the authorities on all sides to respect their right to operate in freedom and safety.
