The CNN African Journalist of the Year

Now in its 9th year, the competition is open to African professional journalists and freelancers working on the African Continent for African owned media organisations and targeted at an African audience. The Free Press Africa Award, one of the competition's 14 categories, recognises journalist work that demonstrates courage, integrity and enhances the cause of media freedom throughout the continent. This award supports journalists who produce fine work at continuing risk to their safety by covering conflicts, corruption or crises in an atmosphere where information is controlled or suppressed.

Closing date for the receipt of entries is February 14th 2004 and all work submitted must have been broadcast or published in 2003.
