The Frontline Club Opens in London

By the time you read this, the Frontline Club will have opened its doors in Paddington, Central London. The Club offers members a bar, restaurant, meeting rooms and accommodation. Membership is by subscription, and members will be nominated and elected by a committee.

The Frontline Forum, also in the building, is offering an independent arena for the discussion of issues affecting frontline journalists.

The club is the brainchild of Vaughan Smith (above), Director and founder member of Frontline Television. He says "Our aim is to provide freelancers and their friends and colleagues from print, stills and television with a "campfire", a central focal point for our community". Frontline Television has lost eight of its members, including founder member Rory Peck, in the past decade. The Club hopes that it will help to keep alive their memory, and that of many other colleagues who have died on assignment.

The Trust was privileged to have a foretaste of The Frontline Club which kindly made its premises available for a special lunch, hosted by NBC News, for the families of freelancers who had been killed. A really exciting and much-needed venture, both the Club and the Forum deserve all your support.
