The Awards ceremony, hosted by Jon Snow, will be preceded by drinks at 7 pm and followed by a reception in the Garden Room and Conservatory until 11.30 pm A unique showcase for freelance camerawork in TV news, current affairs and documentaries worldwide, the Rory Peck Awards are about raw, skillful and often historic footage shot in difficult conditions by courageous people. This year, in order to honour the full range of freelance achievement, there are two new award categories: Hard News and Features. It is from the winners of each of these that the overall winner of The 1999 Rory Peck Award will be chosen. There is also a special new award, The Freelancers Choice. This award, chosen by the freelancers themselves, is for the person who has made an outstanding contribution to the work of freelancers. This event is the main fundraiser for The Rory Peck Trust, the UK-based charity which offers financial assistance to the dependents of freelancers killed whilst on assignment, and also to those freelancers who have been permanently injured or disabled in the course of their work. The 1999 Awards ceremony is produced by Sarah Ward-Lilley, World Assignments Editor, BBC News.
