Whether naming the names or showing the footage, The Rory Peck Awards always create a strong mix of emotions. In his moving tribute to Miguel Gil, Kurt Schork and Abed Takoush, Jeremy Bowen talked of loss - but also of courage, stamina and loyalty. Stephen Lambert spoke of the judging process, his admiration for this years' entries very evident. As Jon Snow introduced the winners and finalists, he reminded everyone of the great debt that the news industry owes to its freelancers. Among the audience this year, we were pleased to welcome Kordula, widow of freelance cameraman Olaf Ullman and Alvaro, brother of Miguel Gil Moreno. We are extremely grateful to our Award sponsors, TVnewsweb, who contributed greatly to this years' event and also managed an industry first - a live webcast of the Awards ceremony.

The Rory Peck Awards are very much a team effort. These are the people and companies who made it all happen and we thank them all: the panel of judges, led by Stephen Lambert; our Award producer Sarah Ward-Lilley and her terrific team: Gordon Findlay, Bill Parkinson, Kerry Marcus, Adam Glen, Lisa Millington; APTN, BBC News Resources, Channel 4 TV, ITN, Newsforce, Reuters and Sony.

Finally, after three years at the helm of the Trust, Lucian Hudson has stepped down as Chairman. A good listener and tireless publicist, Lucian talked about the Trust to everyone he met, exploring every angle for a meaningful connection. He ensured that those who had never heard of The Rory Peck Trust now had no excuse to remain uninvolved. Lucian has given the Trust a period of stability, and a chance to find its feet and consolidate its position in the newsgathering industry. We thank him for all that he has done and wish him well for the future.
