Raphael Njoroge

Finalist, the Sony Impact Award 2006

Kenyan

Shot: Kenya, May 2006
Self-funded, broadcast on KTN The Inside Story

“We all know there is this sort of low-level corruption in many countries around the world. Nonetheless, these are pictures we very rarely see. It is important that we get to see them and to remind ourselves that there are people out there taking great personal risks to expose wrong-doing.”
Judge's Comment

Secretly-filmed images of corruption by Kenyan military personnel and other government officials in the capital Nairobi, who are clearly seen in a back street siphoning fuel from official vehicles and then selling it to members of the public. Raphael shot, edited and voiced this piece himself.
