Stephen Dupont & Jacques Menasche

Finalists, the Rory Peck Award for Features 2006

Australian and American
Shot: Afghanistan, March 2006
Self-funded, broadcast on ABC Australia, Foreign Correspondent

“It took me somewhere I’d never seen before, it stayed with the characters and did what good camerawork can do – it stopped being an issue.”
Judge's Comment

The film follows two brothers, Reza and Hussein, who live among a feral population of drug addicts in Kabul’s Old City. Despite all obstacles, the brothers are committed to getting clean. Stephen and Jacques met the brothers via the United Nations Office of Crime and Drugs in Afghanistan. The judges praised the “intimacy and enterprise” of their camerawork as well as its non-intrusion.
